P0237: Turbo boost pressure sensor A: low signal

The ECU sees a voltage that is too low from the turbo boost pressure sensor, usually due to a broken wire, a loose connector or the sensor.

What P0237 means

The boost pressure sensor measures how hard the turbo is pushing air into the engine, and the ECU uses that reading to control the turbo. Which sensor counts as A is defined by each manufacturer. Here the ECU is receiving a voltage below anything the sensor should produce, which almost always means an electrical fault: wire, connector, earth or the sensor.

Most common causes

  • Sensor connector unplugged, loose or corroded
  • Broken signal or supply wire
  • Signal wire shorted to earth against the engine
  • Faulty boost pressure sensor
  • Problem with the ECU’s 5 volt supply

Symptoms

  • Engine warning light on
  • Loss of power or limp mode
  • Turbo feels weak or uneven
  • Higher fuel use, or black smoke on diesels

How to check it

With the ignition on and the engine off, the reader should show roughly atmospheric pressure (around 100 kPa at sea level). If it shows something very different, or the value does not move when you accelerate, suspect the sensor or its wiring.
