The buy or sell report anyone can check in a minute

Before you buy or sell a used car, the Final OBD app reads what its control units have stored and puts it in a PDF report with a code and a QR. Whoever receives it checks it at finalobd.com/validar and sees the original, signed by Final OBD.

The first page of the sample buy or sell report, with the Final OBD seal, the code and the QR The same report checked at finalobd.com/validar on a phone: verified and unchanged VERIFIABLE ATFINALOBD.COM/VALIDAR

What the report includes

What the car has stored on the day it is read, with no frills and no scores. The numbers, as they are.

  • The car, by its VIN

Make, model, engine and the VIN given by the control unit itself, so there is no doubt about which car was read.

  • Faults in every control unit

Engine, gearbox, brakes, airbag, body and every other unit that answers, each fault with its code and status. Units that do not answer are listed too, with the reason.

  • The mileage in each control unit

What each one stores, to compare with the instrument cluster. No conclusions: every unit with its own figure.

  • The emissions monitors

Which ones are complete and which are not, the same thing an MOT station checks through the OBD port.

  • The date and the signature

When it was read and with which version of the app. The report is stored and signed the moment it is generated.

Hybrids, plug-ins and electric cars

If it is a hybrid or an electric car, check its battery cell by cell

The battery is the most expensive part of a hybrid or an electric car. With the app you can see how it is doing inside before you buy: the voltage of every cell, the millivolts between the highest and the lowest, the temperature of every sensor and the real state of charge. A cell that drifts away from the rest stands out at a glance.

This is shown on the app screen, on models that provide this data. The PDF report covers faults, mileage and monitors. More about the battery

The 80 cells of a plug-in hybrid in a grid, each with its voltage and its gap from the average, with the highest and the lowest marked
Plug-inAll 80 cells at once: each cell’s voltage and how far it sits from the average.
The 10 battery blocks of a hybrid with their voltage, coloured by how far they sit from the average, 140 millivolts apart
HybridThe 10 blocks of a hybrid: 140 mV between the highest and the lowest.
The 96 cells of an electric car as bars, with the 12 millivolt gap in amber and the highest and lowest cells
Electric96 cells: one drifts away and the gap rises to 12 mV.

How to check it

  1. Scan the QR or type the code

With your phone camera or at finalobd.com/validar. It is 16 letters and numbers.

  2. See the original

The report appears exactly as it was generated, with the Final OBD signature checked there and then.

  3. Compare it with your copy

If anyone had changed anything, the page would say so. And if you were sent the PDF, you can check whether it is the original.

For car dealers

Your logo and your details appear on the report and on the page the buyer sees, next to the Final OBD seal. The buyer knows who is selling the car and checks for themselves that the reading is genuine.

  • The Dealer subscription: everything in Pro plus the verifiable reports.
  • Your logo, name, address, phone and website on every report.
  • One report per car in a few minutes, with the adapter plugged in.
  • The buyer checks it on their own, without calling you or installing anything.

For private buyers and sellers

If you are buying, ask for the report and check it here before you pay. If you are selling, produce it yourself: whoever comes to see the car arrives knowing what is there.

  • Anyone can check it, free and without an account.
  • It carries none of your personal details: just the car and what was read from it.
  • It is a reading of the car, not an opinion.

A sample report

A made up car and dealer, with the report exactly as the app produces it. Look at it online, as a buyer would, or download it as a PDF.

Questions

Is it a warranty or an inspection?

No. It is an electronic reading of the car made with Final OBD through the OBD port: it records what its control units say at that moment. It does not replace a mechanical inspection and it is not a warranty.

What if someone changes the PDF?

At finalobd.com/validar you always see the original stored by Final OBD. If the PDF you are shown does not match, the same page lets you check the file and tells you whether it is the original.

Can a code be made up?

No. Our server generates the codes when the report is produced. They are unique and cannot be guessed. A made up code shows as not found.

What owner details does it include?

None. The report carries the car and what was read from it. If a dealer produces it, their business details as well.

What do I need to produce one?

The Dealer subscription in the app (everything in Pro plus the verifiable reports), an OBD2 adapter plugged in and an internet connection when the report is generated. Final OBD is currently in testing: write to us and we will sign you up.

How do I pay?

It is a subscription that renews automatically and is paid through Google Play or the App Store, which show you the price and the period before you subscribe. Cancel whenever you like from your store account, at least 24 hours before the period ends. Reports already issued can still be checked. More in the terms.
