P2293: Fuel pressure regulator 2 performance
The second fuel pressure regulator cannot reach the pressure the ECU asks for. Often the regulator itself, low fuel or a dirty fuel filter.

What P2293 means
Some injection systems, especially common rail diesels, have two parts that control fuel pressure: one on the pump and one on the injector rail. Which one counts as regulator 2 is up to each manufacturer. This code means that regulator cannot hold the pressure the ECU expects.
Most common causes
- Blocked fuel filter or air in the filter
- Very low fuel level or air getting into the fuel lines
- Loose or corroded regulator connector
- Regulator 2 faulty or stuck with dirt
- Rail pressure sensor reading wrongly
- Leaking injector returns or a worn pump
Symptoms
- Engine warning light on
- Loss of power or limp mode
- Hard starting
- Engine may stall

With care You can drive with care, but the engine may lose power or stall without warning. Get it to a workshop soon and avoid long journeys.
How to check it
With your reader, compare desired and actual rail pressure live at idle and when accelerating: if the actual figure does not follow the desired one, note it for the workshop. If the filter was changed recently, check no air was left in the system.
