P2228: Barometric pressure sensor A circuit low
The ECU sees too low a voltage from the barometric pressure sensor. Nearly always a broken wire, a poor connector or the sensor itself.

What P2228 means
The barometric pressure sensor measures outside air pressure to adjust the mixture and turbo boost. Circuit low means the ECU gets a voltage below what is possible, which usually points to an electrical fault: a broken wire, a wire shorted to earth or no supply. If the sensor is inside the ECU, the fault may be internal.
Most common causes
- Loose or corroded sensor connector
- Signal wire broken or shorted to earth
- No 5 volt supply to the sensor (sometimes shared with other sensors)
- Faulty barometric sensor
- Internal ECU fault if the sensor is built in
Symptoms
- Engine warning light on
- Possible lack of power or limited boost
- Sometimes slightly worse starting or idle

How to check it
Look at live barometric pressure with the engine off: a very low or zero value means an electrical fault. If other sensors show circuit low codes at the same time, suspect the shared 5 volt supply.
