P0222: Throttle or pedal position sensor B circuit low

The ECU sees a voltage that is too low from throttle or pedal sensor B. Nearly always a wire shorting to ground, a connector or the sensor itself.

What P0222 means

Low input means the voltage is below anything the sensor can produce in any position. There is almost always an electrical fault: a broken wire or one touching ground, a connector or the sensor. On cars with an electronic throttle, both the throttle body and the accelerator pedal carry two position sensors that cross-check each other for safety. Whether sensor B belongs to the throttle or the pedal is up to each manufacturer.

  • Faulty position sensor B
  • ECU fault (rare)

How to check it

With the ignition on, watch the live signal from position sensor B: if it stays at or near zero however far you press, the circuit is open or grounded. Check and clean the connector before replacing the part.
