P0453: EVAP pressure sensor circuit high

The ECU is getting a voltage from the fuel tank pressure sensor that is above the possible range. Almost always wiring, connector or sensor.

What P0453 means

The tank pressure sensor monitors fuel vapour so the ECU can detect leaks. Its signal has gone above the normal range, which points to an electrical problem: wiring, connector, earth or the sensor itself.

  • Loose or corroded sensor connector
  • Broken sensor earth
  • Signal wire shorted to a positive feed
  • Faulty pressure sensor

How to check it

With the ignition on and the fuel cap open, check tank pressure on your reader: it should read close to zero. If it sits at maximum, check the sensor connector, usually on top of the tank or by the canister.
