P0245: Turbo wastegate solenoid A: low signal

The ECU sees a voltage that is too low on the turbo wastegate solenoid circuit, usually a wire shorted to earth or a faulty solenoid.

What P0245 means

The wastegate lets some exhaust gas bypass the turbo so boost does not rise too far, and a solenoid controlled by the ECU decides how far it opens. Which solenoid counts as A is defined by each manufacturer. It has measured a voltage on the circuit that is lower than it should ever be, which usually means a short to earth or a damaged coil.

  • Control wire chafed and shorting to earth on the engine
  • Corroded or damp solenoid connector
  • Solenoid coil shorted internally
  • No supply to the solenoid (fuse or relay)
  • Faulty engine ECU, which is rare

  • Turbo pulls weakly, or sometimes too hard
  • Uneven response when accelerating
