P0243: Turbo wastegate solenoid A: circuit fault

The ECU has found an electrical fault in the solenoid that regulates turbo boost. It is usually the connector, the wiring or the solenoid itself.

What P0243 means

The wastegate lets some exhaust gas bypass the turbo so boost does not rise too far, and a solenoid controlled by the ECU decides how far it opens. Which solenoid counts as A is defined by each manufacturer. The ECU has seen that the solenoid’s electrical circuit is not behaving as expected, without saying whether the signal is high or low.

  • Solenoid connector loose, corroded or unplugged
  • Wiring chafed or burnt through near the hot turbo
  • Faulty solenoid with an open or shorted coil
  • Blown fuse or supply problem to the solenoid
  • Faulty engine ECU, which is rare
