What U0422 means

The body control module (BCM) shares a lot of data over the network: door status, lights, key, brake pedal or outside temperature, depending on the car. This code is stored by another module when those messages arrive out of range or with errors. The body module itself usually has codes saying which data is wrong.

Most common causes

  • A faulty switch or sensor wired to the module (door, brake, lights, outside temperature)
  • Low or unstable battery voltage
  • Loose, corroded or damp body control module connector
  • Damaged network wiring or interference
  • Body module with the wrong software or configuration, for example after replacement
  • Faulty body control module

  • Dashboard warnings for no clear reason, such as door open
  • Lights, locks or wipers behaving oddly
  • Keyless start or stop-start not working
  • Other control units disabling functions
