U0107: Lost communication with the throttle actuator control module

The engine ECU is not receiving messages from the module that drives the throttle. The car usually drops into limp mode with little power.

What U0107 means

On modern cars the accelerator pedal is not linked to the throttle by a cable: an electric motor opens it as the ECU requests. This code means communication with the module that controls the throttle has been lost. On many cars that control sits inside the engine ECU itself, so the code then points to a network or power fault.

Most common causes

  • Low battery or loose terminals
  • Blown fuse or relay feeding the module or throttle
  • Loose, corroded or oily connector on the throttle body or module
  • Damaged network or power wiring near the engine
  • Faulty throttle control module or engine ECU

Symptoms

  • Engine warning light on
  • The car will not rev or accelerates very weakly (limp mode)
  • Rough idle or engine stalling
  • Sometimes the engine will not start

With care You can usually move, but with very little power, which is risky when joining traffic or overtaking. Drive straight to a garage on quiet roads.

How to check it

Use the reader to watch throttle opening and pedal position live: if the throttle does not follow the pedal, the garage will know where to start. Also check battery voltage with the engine running (13.5 to 14.7 V is normal).
