U0104: Lost communication with the cruise control module

The vehicle network is not receiving messages from the cruise control module. The car drives normally, but cruise or adaptive cruise stops working.

What U0104 means

Cruise control holds the speed you set, and on many cars also the gap to the vehicle ahead (adaptive cruise). This code means its module has stopped talking to the other control units over the data network. On cars with radar, the module is usually at the front.

Most common causes

  • Low or unstable battery voltage
  • Blown fuse for the module
  • Loose, corroded or wet connector on the module or front radar
  • Damaged wiring, for example after a bump to the front bumper
  • Faulty cruise control module

  • Automatic emergency braking disabled on cars that share the module

If the car has had a knock at the front, tell the garage: the radar and its connector usually sit there. Also check whether other U codes are stored at the same time, which would point to the network or power supply.
