P0747: Pressure control solenoid stuck on
The automatic gearbox pressure control solenoid is stuck on, so shifts feel odd or very harsh. Dirt jamming the valve is a common cause.

What P0747 means
The pressure control solenoid sets the fluid pressure the automatic gearbox uses to clamp its internal clutches. It decides whether gear changes are smooth yet firm. The control unit sees the valve still acting when it shouldn’t, as if it had jammed in the on position.
Most common causes
- Dirty gearbox fluid holding the valve in place
- The pressure control solenoid mechanically jammed
- Control wire shorted to earth, keeping it switched on
- Dirty or worn valve body
- Transmission control unit (uncommon)
Symptoms
- Engine or gearbox warning light on
- Very harsh gear changes with a thump
- Hard clunk when selecting D or R
- Gearbox goes into limp mode
Can you drive with P0747?
With care You can drive gently to a garage, though the gearbox may drop into limp mode and lose gears. If it slips, the more you use it the more it wears.
How to check it
Note when it happens: cold or hot, when stopping or moving off. With a scanner, see if the code returns straight after clearing it: instantly usually means electrical, later on more likely mechanical.
