P0192: Fuel rail pressure sensor circuit low

The ECU sees a voltage that is too low from the rail pressure sensor. It is nearly always a wire shorting to ground, a connector or the sensor itself.

What P0192 means

Low input means the sensor voltage is below what is possible, as if there were no pressure at all with the engine running. It is almost always an electrical fault. As the ECU does not know the real pressure, it usually cuts power to protect the engine.

Most common causes

  • Loose, corroded or damp sensor connector
  • Chafed signal wire shorting to ground
  • Broken or shorted 5 volt supply wire
  • Faulty fuel rail pressure sensor
  • ECU fault (rare)

Symptoms

  • Engine warning light on
  • Limp mode with reduced power
  • Hard starting or no start
  • Stalling

How to check it

Check the live rail pressure: if it reads zero or close to zero with the engine running, the signal is wrong, since the engine could not run without pressure. Inspect the sensor connector before replacing any parts.
