P0190: Fuel rail pressure sensor circuit malfunction
The ECU is not getting a valid signal from the fuel rail pressure sensor. It is usually the connector, the wiring or the sensor itself.

What P0190 means
The rail is the common pipe that feeds pressurised fuel to the injectors, found on common rail diesels and direct injection petrol engines. Its sensor tells the ECU what pressure there is so it can control it. If the signal is missing or nonsense, the ECU cannot manage injection properly and often cuts power.
Most common causes
- Loose, dirty or corroded sensor connector
- Broken or chafed wire, or a poor ground, between sensor and ECU
- Faulty fuel rail pressure sensor
- Problem with the 5 volt supply it shares with other sensors
- ECU fault (rare)
Symptoms
- Engine warning light on
- Limp mode with reduced power
- Hard starting or no start
- Stalling or hesitation
Can you drive with P0190?
With care You can drive with care, but the car may lose power or cut out. Get it to a garage soon and avoid long trips until then.
How to check it
Watch the live rail pressure at idle and with the ignition on but the engine off. If it shows a fixed figure that does not change when you rev, or zero with the engine running, the fault is in the signal rather than in the actual pressure.
