P2195: Oxygen sensor signal biased or stuck lean (bank 1, sensor 1)

The bank 1 oxygen sensor before the catalyst reads lean and will not respond. It may be the sensor itself or a real air leak.

What P2195 means

The oxygen sensor measures oxygen in the exhaust so the ECU can adjust the mixture. Here the sensor ahead of the catalytic converter on bank 1 keeps reading lean (a lot of oxygen) even when the ECU adds fuel. Either the sensor is faulty or air really is getting in, or fuel is short.

  • Exhaust leak ahead of the sensor letting air in
  • Intake air leak (vacuum hose, gasket)
  • Worn or contaminated oxygen sensor
  • Damaged sensor wiring or connector
  • Low fuel pressure or dirty injectors
  • Air flow sensor reading less air than is going in

How to check it

Watch the bank 1 sensor 1 signal and fuel trims live. If a sharp blip of the throttle does not make the sensor swing rich, suspect the sensor; if it responds but trims are very positive, look for an air leak or a fuel supply problem.
