P0751: Shift solenoid A poor performance or stuck off

Shift solenoid A isn’t doing its job or is stuck off, so the gearbox doesn’t change gear properly. Dirt or the solenoid itself are common.

What P0751 means

Shift solenoids route fluid inside the automatic gearbox to move from one gear to the next. Exactly which job solenoid A does is up to each manufacturer. The control unit gives the command but doesn’t see the expected result in the gearbox: the valve responds poorly or stays off.

Most common causes

  • Low gearbox fluid
  • Old fluid or debris that makes the valves stick

  • Internal pressure leak from worn seals or gaskets
