P0641: Sensor reference voltage A: circuit open or faulty
The ECU detects a fault in the 5 volt supply it feeds to several sensors. Usually a shorted sensor or damaged wiring.

What P0641 means
The ECU supplies a fixed voltage, usually 5 volts, to several sensors at once so they can take readings. This code means that supply, called reference A, is not right. Which sensors hang off reference A is up to each manufacturer, and when it fails you usually get codes for several of them.
Most common causes
- One sensor on that line with an internal short
- A sensor plug loose, wet or corroded
- 5 volt reference wire broken or chafed
- Poor sensor earth
- Internal ECU fault

- Engine warning light on
- Several sensor codes at once
- Limp mode, lack of power or unresponsive accelerator
- Hard starting
Can you drive with P0641?
With care Several sensors may stop working and the car may go into limp mode. Drive carefully and only as far as a garage.
How to check it
Write down all the codes that appear together: the sensors involved usually share this supply. A garage test is to unplug those sensors one at a time and see when the voltage returns to 5 volts.
