P0090: Fuel pressure regulator control circuit fault
The ECU detects an electrical fault in the circuit that drives the fuel pressure regulator. Usually the wiring, the connector or the part itself.

What P0090 means
The ECU operates the fuel pressure regulator with an electrical signal. This code means it has spotted something wrong in that circuit, such as an open circuit or abnormal resistance. It is an electrical problem rather than a pressure problem, although it ends up affecting pressure.
Most common causes
- Loose, corroded or damp regulator connector
- Regulator wire broken, chafed or rubbing on the engine
- Faulty coil inside the regulator
- Blown fuse or poor power supply to the circuit
- Rarely, an ECU fault

- Loss of power or limp mode
- Hard starting or stalling
- Rough idle

How to check it
With the engine cold and off, check the regulator connector is fully home and free of green corrosion. Then clear the code and see if it returns straight away: an instant return means a permanent fault, which is easier to trace.
