P0841: Transmission fluid pressure sensor/switch A: circuit range or performance

The control unit sees gearbox fluid pressure sensor A reporting values that do not add up. Fluid level, the sensor or its connector are usual culprits.

What P0841 means

The automatic gearbox monitors its fluid pressure with a sensor or pressure switch. Here the signal is present but does not match what the control unit expects for the gear and operating conditions. What sensor A is and where it sits is decided by each manufacturer.

Most common causes

  • Low transmission fluid level or badly degraded fluid
  • Loose, dirty or corroded sensor connector
  • Chafed or damaged sensor wiring
  • Faulty pressure sensor or switch itself
  • Genuinely wrong pressure from a blocked filter or valve body fault

How to check it

Start by checking the gearbox fluid level, the cheapest step. If your scanner shows fluid pressure or the switch state, see whether it changes when you select D or R with your foot on the brake.
