P0756: Shift solenoid B poor performance or stuck off

Shift solenoid B isn’t doing its job or is stuck off, so the gearbox doesn’t change gear properly. Dirt or the solenoid itself are common.

What P0756 means

Shift solenoids route fluid inside the automatic gearbox to move from one gear to the next. Exactly which job solenoid B does is up to each manufacturer. The control unit gives the command but doesn’t see the expected result in the gearbox: the valve responds poorly or stays off.

Most common causes

  • Low gearbox fluid
  • Old fluid or debris that makes the valves stick
  • Shift solenoid B moving sluggishly or not opening
  • Valve body with dirty or worn passages
  • Internal pressure leak from worn seals or gaskets

If the gearbox has a dipstick, check the fluid level and condition with the engine warm. With a scanner, see whether other gearbox codes are stored too: together they help the garage tell a fluid problem from a valve problem.
