P2263: Turbocharger or supercharger boost system performance

What P2263 means

The ECU compares the boost it requests with what the manifold pressure sensor reads. If they do not match for a while (too little or too much boost), it stores this code. It is very common on turbo diesels. The car often goes into limp mode and loses power.

Most common causes

• Turbo or intercooler hose loose, split or with a slack clamp
• Broken or loose vacuum pipe to the boost control valve
• Faulty boost control solenoid
• Variable vane turbo mechanism stuck with carbon
• Manifold pressure sensor reading wrongly
• Worn turbo or a heavily blocked particulate filter

Symptoms

• Engine warning light on
• Clear loss of power or limp mode
• Whistle or hiss when accelerating (if there is a leak)
• Black smoke when accelerating

Can you drive with P2263?

With care You can drive gently, without pushing the engine. If the turbo is losing oil or making metallic noises, stop, as the engine could be damaged.

How to check it

With your reader, watch requested and actual boost live during a full throttle pull in third gear: if actual stays well below, there is a leak or the turbo is not regulating; if it overshoots, the vanes or valve are sticking. Also check the hoses by hand for oil or cracks.
