P0089: Fuel pressure regulator performance problem
The regulator cannot hold the fuel pressure the ECU is asking for. Usually the regulator itself, dirt in the system or poor fuel supply.

What P0089 means
The fuel pressure regulator is the part that sets how much pressure there is in the fuel system. The ECU commands it and uses the pressure sensor to check that pressure follows. If actual pressure does not track the target, or rises and falls erratically, this code is stored.
Most common causes
- Dirty fuel filter causing pressure drops
- Contaminated fuel or water fouling the regulator
- The regulator itself sticking or worn
- Loose or corroded regulator connector
- Fuel pressure sensor giving wrong readings
- Weak supply from the low-pressure lift pump
Symptoms
- Loss of power or jerking
- Unstable idle
- Hard starting or stalling
- Engine warning light on

How to check it
In live data, watch desired and actual fuel pressure while accelerating gently. If actual pressure swings or lags behind desired, tell the garage: it points towards the regulator or the fuel supply.
